DANNY BRIGGS YOU BEAUTY!
DANNY BRIGGS YOU BEAUTY!
Hats off to Danny Briggs. Remarkable. Need him to keep this going for as long as possible.
Wicket needed
Hmm, so we will need 4 wickets in 33 overs tomorrow (unless Lancashire can pull off an unlikely win), followed by another 11. Going to be tough...
Seems easier to bat on the longer the day goes. Let’s hope Woakes or Norwell does what Overton did this morning. Sends down a few jaffers, use the new ball and that the pitch was undercover all night, and finish up early. Bat most of the day. Bat at a good pace, try get a 250/300 lead and put them in, and hope Briggs can get some grip on a day 4 pitch.
New ball tomorrow is the key. Woaksey needs to make in roads....
A bit disappointed later on. I thought that with 5 down we could sneak 1, maybe 2 before the close. It would be heartbreaking to have got that magic 4 batting point, only to fail to get a full set of bowling points. We need the sort of start that Somerset got this morning. I would sooner we lost by setting them a total that they chased successfully rather than miss out because we couldn't get 9 wickets in 110 overs. We are all assuming that Hampshire will win of course but who knows, a couple of good 50's could still swing it for Lancs but I would sooner be in Hampshire's position.
We're gonna know by lunch tomorrow whether we're on with a chance or whether it has slipped away.from us.
Expecting Danny Briggs to spin us to victory is about as likely as him hitting 20 in one over.
Oh, hang on ....
Still a lot of hard work to do but we at least achieved Target #1 today.
Typical of Somerset to produce a sort of batting performance. Certainly better than their last 3 games. I really do not want a Rose Bowl 2011 moment when we struggled to get wickets when we had it in the bag. Tomorrow is edge of the seat stuff.
Yeah that was a tough one. We made about 490 batting first and had Hampshire following on the flattest deck of all time, the wickets just wouldn't come in the 2nd dig and Hampshire got so far ahead anyway eventually they actually saved it comfortably. I remember Carberry getting big runs, someone else got a ton too. Chopra made a ton for us.
It would be nice to pay Hampshire back for that one by preventing them from winning the title this year!
A smidgen of rain in the air and very overcast at the moment. The first hour is going to be crucial.
If it doesn't come with the 2nd new ball it doesn't come at all here...
Does an over rate of +5 mean we’re ahead or behind the required over rate?

Neil McKenzie. That one still hurts. I'd made the trip to Southampton that day confidently expecting to see JT raise the trophy. Instead a combination of a flat track and some frankly unambitious captaincy saw it slip away.
I could come to Edgbaston tomorrow to see our success but I'm worried I'll turn out to be a Jonah.
We may or may not get full bowling points but I'm really starting to worry about how we win this game now. Pitch deterioration would help.
I'm clinging on to the fact that Somerset have shown themselves to be very capable of a collapse recently.
I think they’re hoping it’ll spin. But it just seems too flat. I know they needed 4 batting points. But it just seems to be getting flatter and flatter.
