Yes, four weeks until the end of the season.
of the five overseas players we've had this season, he's in the top 3, with Malan and Carlos!

In a shameless attempt to curse them, I'll say Hampshire are batting very sensibly and edging themselves towards a very dominant position.

One thing I will say about Holder, other than he is yet another poor short term overseas choice, is that the ball he bowled that went for 4 byes, is possibly the most I’ve ever seen a ball swing after the stumps.
Pitched short, going comfortably down leg, and it swung so much it almost took out Yates at first slip. Burgess and the slips were just trying to work out what on earth happened. Was one of the weirder things I’ve seen in a match.

It is still a source of wonder as to why we let him go in the first place. The fact that during his last match (The Div 2 title decider, Trott's last game) he still wasn't sure at lunch, if he would still be staying. No wonder he looks like a man on a mission. It looked a poor decision then and still does. We seem to come up with some 'Left field' choices on overseas players and I often think, "If they are not Test standard, then why bother". Don't think we will get a 4th innings score to win, it already looks 30 too many. I am glad in a way that it (The season) is coming to an end, what looks like 2 Test series defeats, a poor T20 Q.F, lack of a decent fixture list (Same as usual) a stupid unwanted competition, I am almost glad it's whimpering out with the hope of better seasons to come.

Dear me Paul, cheer up a bit.

We could still win this game - I think we will. We qualified for the top group of the CC. Watching some of the young lads come through has been so exciting. Yes, the T20 QF was disappointing, but we did still re@ch the knockout stage. The injuries to key players has been devastating at times. The RLC was a brilliant tournament with some ‘development’ players.

Cheer up, pal. Come and sit in block 16/17 today and I’ll share a banana and a cuppa with you 👍.

PS There’s more to the departure of KB to Hampshire than you’ve suggested.

Think we've got to keep the target under 250 if we're going to have a chance. A defeat would be very damaging to our title ambitions with Yorkshire winning and Notts likely to win, and a draw doesn't seem likely so we really could do with winning this one.

It’s round about now that we need someone like Stone, and OHD available or had picked Bresnan.
Someone with express pace or just that experience and nouse to get through the tail and break a partnership.
Briggs is doing a great job but neither of these players need to play a shot at him or take a risk, because the bowling seems very unthreatening or uneconomical from the other end.

No wickets in the first hour. Doesn't auger well for the target we will be facing but I guess it does show that our batsmen should be able to make a damn good fist of any chase

FINALLY

Barker is gone. 275 the lead so far, need to keep it at that and get the final wicket promptly

Is anyone watching? Have batting conditions got easier like it was suggested it would do?

Not really any great insight from me on the game, but two wider points: did we ever have realistic goals of winning the county championship? I don't think we did. Personnel I'm happy we have snapped the poor form of 2020 and am happy there is a better set of coaches and perhaps players in place.

Secondly, and this point was mainly brought on by the test match yesterday, is we need to learn how to win some key moments. Do it when it matters. Hants have done this now, but we always seem to fold when we really need to perform. This might be a result if being a relatively new team or it might be lack if confidence. We could get this instinct.

Rhodes under-bowling himself again - only five overs this innings. Has he forgotten that he took five wickets in the first innings?! Amazed he didn't have a go when that partnership was going, he has a knack of taking breaking partnerships.

296 to win, then. I'm not confident...

Slow progress (not surprisingly given the fact we have a day and a half - to last !), but we're 43 without loss, after 27 overs.

I think that he may be carrrying a slight injury as he didn't bowl much, if at all, in the later 50 over games and the T20 QF.

With Sibley batting the progress is only ever going to be slow :D
